Thornton Fractional South Red Wolves overcame a shaky start Tuesday to defeat Hillcrest 13-3 at home in a conference baseball matchup.
According to the game summary, Hillcrest initially took an early 3-0 lead in the first two innings, capitalizing on Red Wolves' mistakes and strong base-running, including a score from senior shortstop Noah Walls. However, the momentum shifted in the bottom of the second inning when T.F. South head coach Amir Wright brought in sophomore Nathan Weathers to pitch. From that point, the Red Wolves surged.
"Being down is pretty normal for us," Wright said. "We’ve played a tough schedule. These guys have learned to fight their way back."
T.F. South responded with consistent offense, led by contributions from Juan Lozano, Anthony De Leon, Michael Evans Jr., and Blake Sims. The team scored in four straight innings, capped by a six-run explosion in the sixth that ended the game via the mercy rule. Catcher Abraham Serna’s bases-clearing hit sealed the win.
Despite their early lead, Hillcrest could not hold off the Red Wolves’ aggressive base running and timely hitting. "They executed. We didn’t," Hillcrest head coach Erik Williams said. "We’re learning, but the fight is still there."
The victory improves T.F. South's record to 11-18-1 overall, showing signs of playoff readiness.
