The TF United boys volleyball team is fostering a culture of teamwork and resilience under the guidance of head coach Mark Misch. As they enter another competitive season, Misch emphasizes the importance of communication, respect, and unity within the team.
According to Misch, “We’re a team. We work together, we win together, we lose together.” He added that respecting each other and the game is a major focus for them. Boys volleyball has historically struggled for popularity, but Misch has witnessed growth in the program since he began coaching in 2007 when the entire co-op program had only 10 players.
For senior Luis Hernandez, volleyball has imparted valuable lessons about perseverance. “We’ve had some tough losses, and you do get frustrated,” he said. “But you just have to accept them, move on, and do better next time.”
Fellow teammate Eartis Booth believes in the importance of passion. Booth said, “If you’re not enjoying what you’re doing, then why are you doing it?” Yahir Silva has learned that every point matters. Silva said that there are times they get in their heads but there’s always a chance to get the point back.
Misch stresses lessons that extend beyond the court. He explained that being on time, working with people, and being responsible are life skills. Misch said, “You’re going to fail sometimes, but it’s about learning how to improve and move forward.” As the team continue their season, they remain focused on their goal: playing together, learning from every match, and growing both as players and individuals.
