Girls track and field team overcoming challenges, fosters growth for 2025 season

0Comments

The Thornton Fractional South Red Wolves Girls Track and Field team, under the guidance of head coach Elissa Bell, is navigating unique challenges with creativity and a strong team culture.

According to Bell, the team faces difficulties starting practice in January without an indoor facility, which forces them to train in hallways, balconies, and the weight room. Despite these limitations, she emphasizes that it fosters innovation in their training methods. “After 10 years, we’ve almost perfected indoor practice planning,” Bell said. “It forces us to think outside the box, which is always a good thing.”

Bell’s coaching philosophy centers on authenticity, encouraging athletes to be themselves both on and off the track. “I try to be my authentic self. It helps my kids realize they can be themselves too, which benefits them as athletes and individuals,” she explained.

Athletes like Jordyn Clark embrace this mindset, finding success through personal growth. Clark said that it’s about running against oneself rather than comparing oneself to others. She explained how focusing on her own progress helps her perform better.

Jada Simpson attributes her success to mental preparation and positivity. Simpson said that having a positive mindset is crucial as it affects her performance during practice and meets.

Aniston Coates highlights the importance of physical readiness. Coates noted that staying hydrated and eating right are essential for being in shape to perform well.

Despite these challenges, the Red Wolves continue to excel, fostering growth both as athletes and individuals.
