Thornton Fractional South’s Red Wolves Girls Varsity Track and Field team delivered a commendable performance on Thursday, securing third place overall at the SSC Blue Girls Conference Championship. The team excelled in several key events, with notable individual achievements.
According to the results from their recent participation, the Red Wolves carried forward their momentum from a third-place finish at the 40th Annual Oak Forest Invitational. They concluded the meet with 113.5 points, trailing behind Tinley Park with 130 points and Lemont with 140 points. Despite challenging windy conditions and strong competition, T.F. South excelled in multiple events, highlighting emerging talent and depth within the team.
Sophomore Jordyn Clark demonstrated her prowess both on the track and in field events by securing first place in the long jump with a distance of 5.28 meters. She also sprinted to victory in both the 100 meters (12.62 seconds) and 200 meters (26.25 seconds). Junior Jamaya White showcased her strength in the 400 meters, finishing first with a time of 1:01.26, narrowly defeating her closest competitor.
“Our girls battled hard,” head coach Elissa Belli said. “We had a few setbacks, like the dropped baton in the 4×200, but the team kept fighting. Jordyn and Jamaya were incredible.”
Belli also noted that the 4×800 relay team surpassed expectations by advancing from a projected sixth place to finish second. The Red Wolves concluded strongly in the 4×400 relay as well, securing second place and ending their day with pride as they look forward to sectionals.
