Progress over points: Red Wolves push Bremen to the limit

0Comments

Despite a strong defensive effort and standout performances, the Thornton Fractional South RedWolves fell 1-0 to the Bremen Braves in a varsity girls’ soccer match on Tuesday afternoon.

The RedWolves entered the contest with a 2-7 record (1-6 in conference) and were looking to recover from a difficult 7-0 loss to Argo. According to the match report, Bremen was also struggling, being on a seven-game losing streak. However, it was the Braves who managed to edge ahead, scoring the game’s lone goal in the 16th minute through a long-range shot by senior Miranda Villanueva.

Lucia Terrazas of the RedWolves stepped in as goalkeeper despite normally playing forward and made multiple key saves to keep the game close. “For me to not play goalie, I feel like I did pretty good,” said Terrazas. “Blocking all the goals and just only letting one in.”

Sophomore striker Alysya Morrow nearly equalized for the RedWolves moments later but was denied during a one-on-one chance. “I feel like I’ve definitely grown,” Morrow said. “I’m going to continue to grow.”

Despite the loss, head coach Aaron Zambrano praised his young squad. “This is probably the best game we’ve played defensively and offensively,” Zambrano said. “We’ll use it as motivation for our final three games.” The Thornton Fractional South team is scheduled to face Tinley Park at home on Thursday.
