Thornton Fractional South’s cross-country team delivered a commendable performance on Saturday, securing the varsity title and finishing as runner-up in the junior varsity race at the 7th Annual Julian Urbina Memorial Invitational held at Riverfront Park.
The Running Red Wolves were spearheaded by junior Ricky Budlove, who achieved second place in the varsity race with a personal-best time of 16 minutes and 50 seconds. Senior John Carson finished ninth with a time of 17:58, while sophomore Alonzo Magana secured the tenth position at 18:06. Junior Princeton Harb came in 16th with a time of 18:27, and junior Antwon Love finished 21st in 18:44. Seniors Xavier Ruiz and Eduardo Ramirez completed the varsity lineup, finishing 41st and 65th respectively.
Freshman Malik Harb finished sixth with a time of 19:49, while junior Julius Navarro placed seventh at 20:02. Juniors John Capers and Reggie Ballard both set personal records, finishing in 19th and 20th places respectively. Other finishers included juniors Gavin Stubbs and Princeton Harvey, along with sophomore TreShon Stewart.
Several runners from Thornton Fractional South earned medals for their performances, contributing to the program’s overall success. The team is set to return to Riverfront Park on Wednesday for the 2nd Annual Crosstown Classic against TF North, with races scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.
