The Thornton Fractional South girls basketball team turned in a dominant all-around performance, rolling past Lemont 51–32 in conference action.
According to reports, the game took place on January 22 at Lemont High School, where the Red Wolves established an early lead through defensive pressure and effective scoring in transition. They maintained control throughout the match by forcing turnovers and limiting Lemont’s opportunities. The team excelled in ball movement, attacking the paint, and capitalizing on second-chance opportunities to extend their lead during the middle quarters. Their strong rebounding and disciplined defense prevented Lemont from gaining momentum.
The senior class of Thornton Fractional South provided leadership on both ends of the court. Players such as Gigi Dillon, Tolu Babalola, Khyla Whitfield, Paiton Day, G’yah Capers, Sharmaine Averhart, and Nila Mathis contributed with experience and communication skills. They helped secure key matchups inside and along the perimeter while setting a strong defensive tone.
Thornton Fractional South is set to host Thornton Fractional North on February 10 at 5 p.m. in another conference matchup. In their previous encounter on February 11 last year, the Red Wolves were defeated by Thornton Fractional North with a score of 73–49.
