The Thornton Fractional South girls basketball team earned a strong road victory, pulling away in the second half to defeat Oak Forest 59–50 in conference action.
According to reports, the match took place on January 27 at Oak Forest High School, where the Red Wolves employed balanced scoring and consistent defense to gain control and clinch the nine-point win. Thornton Fractional South established an early lead with aggressive ball pressure and efficient transition offense, maintaining momentum through the middle quarters and keeping their composure in the final stretch. The team limited second-chance opportunities for Oak Forest and forced crucial turnovers, enabling them to widen the gap and finish strong at the free-throw line. Their consistent defensive rotations and strong rebounding efforts were pivotal in maintaining their lead as the game became more competitive in the fourth quarter.
The victory underscored the leadership of Thornton Fractional South’s senior class, which continues to provide experience and versatility. Seniors Gigi Dillon, Tolu Babalola, Khyla Whitfield, Paiton Day, G’yah Capers, Sharmaine Averhart, and Nila Mathis offered stability on both ends of the court by controlling tempo and setting high standards with their effort and communication. Their contributions in both frontcourt and perimeter play were instrumental in winning key rebounding battles and defending multiple positions.
Looking ahead, the Red Wolves are set to host Thornton Fractional North on February 10 at 5 p.m. for another conference matchup. In their previous encounter on February 11 last year, Thornton Fractional South was defeated by TF North with a score of 73–49.
