Thornton Fractional South’s varsity volleyball team left the court Thursday night with a sense of pride, despite their 25-18, 25-23 loss to Oak Lawn. The match showcased the team’s resilience and determination.
According to reports, the Red Wolves fought hard throughout the game, extending rallies and forcing Oak Lawn to earn every point. Even Oak Lawn’s head coach acknowledged that TF South’s hustle made the match challenging.
Middle hitter Candace Irvin energized the crowd in the second set with two aces that shifted momentum and erased an early deficit. Layla Smith, an outside hitter, followed with a back-row kill and crucial serving that tied the score at 23, bringing TF South close to forcing a third set.
Middle blocker Nina Robinson praised her teammates’ persistence. “Even when we made mistakes, we lifted each other up,” Robinson said. “That’s what the game’s all about.”
Despite Oak Lawn securing the win, Thornton Fractional South demonstrated their potential to challenge any opponent. With strong serving, defensive energy, and team chemistry, they appear ready to convert close matches into victories.
