TF South’s varsity softball team faced a challenging start to their season with a 13-0 defeat against De La Salle on March 18 at De La Salle High School. Despite the loss, the young team gained valuable experience in their season opener against a formidable opponent.
According to reports, pitcher Izzy Sprehe delivered a strong performance by pitching five innings and striking out four batters. Although De La Salle’s offense capitalized on key moments, Sprehe’s composure and ability to navigate tough innings were noted as positives for TF South.
Offensively, the team had some bright spots against De La Salle’s dominant pitching staff. Camilla Rosa provided a spark with a triple, going 1-for-3 at the plate. Morgan Kleidon also contributed by reaching base twice with a hit and a walk.
Head coach Dave Klupchak expressed optimism about the team’s potential despite the outcome. “It was a tough first game for a young team, but we played well,” Klupchak said. “We just need to learn from this and keep improving.”
TF South demonstrated grit and determination throughout the game, showing flashes of promise on both sides of the ball. The team remained focused and competed hard against their well-established opponent.
Looking ahead, TF South has an opportunity to recover quickly as they host Crete-Monee on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. With lessons learned from their opener, the team is eager to continue growing and developing as the season progresses.
