The Red Wolves track and field teams achieved first-place finishes at a seven-team invitational held on April 25 at T.F. South High School, despite facing cold temperatures and gusty winds.

Coached by Ellie Belli and Steve Nelson, both the girls’ and boys’ teams demonstrated their depth and strength across multiple events. The girls’ team was led by standout performances from Trinity Ali and Yanitizia Luna. Ali secured first place in both the shot put and discus events, while Luna excelled in the distance races, winning the 1,600-meter and 3,200-meter runs.

On the boys’ side, Kevin Rincon claimed victory in the shot put event, with Lecal Buchanan winning the discus. Jerry Harris sprinted to success in the 200-meter dash.

Belli commented on the challenging conditions: “It was a difficult night to compete with cold temperatures and lots of wind, but our athletes rose to the challenge.”

According to Belli, despite strong competition at the invitational, the Red Wolves excelled under pressure, setting a positive tone for the remainder of their season. Looking ahead, the girls’ team is set to compete Thursday at Oak Forest, while the boys will be back in action Friday at Sandburg. With momentum on their side, they aim to build on this success in upcoming meets.
