The Thornton Fractional South softball team is gearing up for another season, focusing on both team success and individual growth. Head coach Dave Klupchak emphasizes player development, believing that personal achievements contribute to the team’s overall success.
“I work on the individual more than the team, because I think if the individual success is there, the team success will follow,” Klupchak said. “I make sure everybody is doing what they’re supposed to be doing. If we’re all on the same page, the team’s success will come.”
According to Klupchak, beyond playing skills, life lessons and sportsmanship are also crucial. “We talk about how to treat people, how to treat other teams, and sportsmanship,” he said. “They’re student-athletes, and soon they’ll be young adults. We want to prepare them for what comes next.”
Senior Camila Rosas has been working on improving both her mental and physical approach to softball. “I’m making sure my mental game is getting better, as well as my physical,” she said. “I’m learning from my mistakes so I can improve this year.”
Catcher Morgan Kleidon highlighted the importance of physical recovery during a demanding season. “We play the max amount of games we can, so it’s really important to take care of your body,” she said. “I do a lot of ice, heat, and massage. Softball is tough on your body, especially as a catcher.”
For Isabella Sprehe, softball has taught her perseverance. “Some people are naturally talented, and others have to work to beat that,” she said.
