Thornton Fractional United’s varsity boys volleyball team put up a spirited effort at home Wednesday but ultimately fell to the Homewood-Flossmoor Vikings in straight sets, 25-22, 25-15.
TF United entered the match with a 4-9 overall record and 1-3 in conference play, facing a tough opponent in the 16-1 Vikings. TFU came out strong in the first set, trading points early and showing resilience through key plays by senior outside hitter Luis Hernandez and junior Eartis Booth. Junior middle hitter Damarrious Thomas and senior Ahmad Powell also contributed, helping keep the score close.
“We came out with energy and fought hard in that first set,” said head coach Mark Misch. “We played together and that’s what I always want to see.”
Despite the strong opening, Homewood-Flossmoor’s depth and experience showed in the second set. TF United struggled to regain momentum as the Vikings pulled away.
“We’ll learn from this and come back stronger,” Misch added. “The team gave a good fight against one of the top programs.”
TF United looks to bounce back in its next matchup as it continues to build chemistry and consistency during a challenging midseason stretch.
