T.F. South High School’s girls basketball team is embarking on a new season with enthusiasm and a commitment to continuous improvement under the guidance of head coach Eric Bryce.
According to the program, the Red Wolves are adhering to a straightforward principle: strive to be better than they were yesterday. The team’s philosophy emphasizes steady growth, consistent effort, and athletes pushing each other during practice as key factors for success throughout the year. This approach has contributed to a productive preseason, with players concentrating on communication, defensive discipline, and enhanced execution across all positions.
A significant asset for T.F. South is its experienced leadership, particularly from its senior class, which plays a pivotal role in shaping the team’s identity and expectations. This year’s seniors include Gigi Dillon (5’11”, small forward/power forward), Tolu Babalola (shooting guard), Khyla Whitfield (5’7″, small forward), Paiton Day (small forward), G’yah Capers (5’9″, shooting guard/small forward), Sharmaine Averhart (center), and Nila Mathis (5’10”, center). All seven seniors have been in contact with college coaches and have the opportunity to sign with collegiate programs by the end of the season if they choose to pursue that path.
The team faces an important stretch starting with its 12th game of the season on December 12 at Blue Island Eisenhower at 6:30 p.m., followed by a home matchup against Dowagiac on December 13 at 12 p.m.
With strong senior leadership and a unified focus on improvement, T.F. South aims to build momentum throughout the season.
