Thornton Fractional South’s boys and girls track and field teams demonstrated strong performances at a 10-school invitational held on Thursday, April 17, at Yorkville High School.
According to the results, the boys’ team secured fourth place overall, while the girls’ squad finished in sixth position. Both teams exhibited potential, particularly with contributions from underclassmen in varsity competitions. Senior David Nkwogu led the boys with notable performances in hurdle and jumping events, contributing significantly to T.F. South’s top-four team finish.
The girls’ relay teams were a highlight for T.F. South, placing in the top four across all relay events, which was considered a significant achievement against a competitive field. “We had a lot of young athletes—freshmen and sophomores—out there today who really handled the pressure of a varsity invite well and rose to the challenge,” said co-coach Ellie Belli.
T.F. South aims to maintain this momentum into next week’s meets. The boys are scheduled to host a home meet on Monday, while the girls will travel to T.F. North on Tuesday. Coaches Steve Nelson and Belli continue to guide their teams through a season marked by growth and potential as they approach the postseason.
