The Thornton Fractional United Red Wolves commenced their boys’ volleyball season with a home victory on Monday, defeating Kankakee in straight sets, 25-20 and 25-15.
Under the leadership of head coach Mark Misch, the Red Wolves demonstrated composure and confidence from the outset. Junior player Yahir Silva led the team with eight kills, three aces, and eight assists, contributing significantly to both offense and defense.
According to Misch, TF United’s aggressive serving strategy kept Kankakee off balance. Consistent communication and strategic positioning allowed the Red Wolves to dominate extended rallies. Silva, wearing jersey No. 13, set an early tone with consecutive aces and maintained his presence throughout the match. “Yahir played with great intensity and really helped us control the tempo,” Misch said. “We’ve been working hard in practice, and it showed tonight.”
The first set was competitive until midway when a scoring run by TF United secured the frame. In the second set, they quickly gained momentum by capitalizing on Kankakee’s errors while maintaining pressure through efficient team play.
Although official team statistics were not recorded, the on-court chemistry was evident as players rotated seamlessly, covering defensively and distributing offensive plays among multiple hitters.
With this win, TF United begins their season at 1-0 and looks forward to a significant matchup later this week against Bradley-Bourbonnais. If they maintain their focus and execution level, they could be a formidable team this season.
