Thornton Fractional South High School’s girls varsity volleyball team is gearing up for the 2025 season with a focus on two primary objectives: maintaining consistency on the court and fostering leadership off it. Head coach Mark Misch has outlined these goals as central to the team’s development.
“We want to play high-level, mistake-free volleyball, especially during tight sets and high-pressure moments,” said Misch. Off the court, the emphasis is on accountability, leadership, and resilience, with upperclassmen setting an example for younger players.
According to Misch, key returners include a reliable outside hitter known for her all-around game, a libero recognized for energy and communication skills, and a cerebral setter who maintains offensive rhythm. He noted that each player has grown both as athletes and leaders, enhancing the team’s overall performance. The offseason training focused on footwork, first-ball contact, and mental toughness through controlled touches to build confidence and quick decision-making in transitions.
“This team has a different edge,” Misch said. “They’ve seen how close we’ve come in past seasons, and they’re not interested in moral victories. They want to win — and not just games but moments.” He emphasized “playing for the jersey” by encouraging open communication, team-building activities, and viewing challenges as opportunities for growth.
