Thornton Fractional South’s girls’ tennis team, known as the Red Wolves, achieved a 4-1 victory against Shepard on Tuesday. The win was largely due to their strong performance in the doubles matches.
Shepard secured its sole point at No. 1 singles when Karolina Szwab defeated Ava Nunez of Thornton Fractional South with scores of 6-4, 6-1. According to the match results, the Red Wolves responded at No. 2 singles as Sabrina Rodriguez from Thornton Fractional South won a three-set match against Karolina Bielaczyc of Shepard, finishing with scores of 6-3, 3-6, and 10-5.
The Red Wolves then took control in the doubles matches. At No. 1 doubles, Ivory Carter and Anylah Brown from Thornton Fractional South overcame a set deficit to defeat Emilia Pardol and A. Wang of Shepard with scores of 2-6, 6-4, and 10-7.
At No. 2 doubles, Liz Carla Ndamou and Hailey Matlock from Thornton Fractional South secured a straight-set victory over A. Claus and N. Brinkis with scores of 6-0 and 7-5. The decisive team win was clinched at No. 3 doubles where Olivia Hall and Kaylee Cannon from Thornton Fractional South dominated Diana Betouni and Justine Jones with scores of 6-1 and 6-0.
With this victory, Thornton Fractional South improved its standing in the conference while demonstrating its depth as they approach the late season stretch.
