Thornton Fractional United’s varsity boys volleyball team narrowly lost to Richards 2-1 in a closely contested conference match on May 6. The game highlighted the home team’s determination and resilience.

According to reports, TF United entered the match with confidence, having secured two consecutive victories, including a significant win against Lemont. In contrast, Richards was experiencing a five-game losing streak. Despite this, TF United appeared to be the more determined team throughout much of the evening.

In the first set, TF United suffered a narrow 26-24 defeat. However, they made a strong comeback in the second set. Senior Elijah Lee concluded the set with a powerful kill following impressive performances from sophomore Eartis Booth and senior Miguel Gonzalez, which leveled the score. Booth’s crucial serving and effort were instrumental in shifting momentum during the match.

Junior Yahir Silva played a key role in orchestrating the offense during the third set with significant assists and an important kill that gave TF United an early 5-1 lead. The final set evolved into a tense battle, with both teams tied at 26-26 before Richards ultimately prevailed.

Despite the loss, head coach Mark Misch expressed pride in his team’s performance. “We never gave up. This team fights hard every point. We’ll regroup and be ready for Shepherd.”
