The Thornton Fractional South Cross Country teams are setting expectations this season to place higher at all their competitions than they did a year ago.
“We all have some goals in mind that we want to hit this season," said senior Benjamin Gresham. "We definitely want to place high in the conference and try to compete in other competitions."
Gresham also spoke of lessons, such as patience and being precise during practices, so the team is ready when it comes to important moments in meets.
“Definitely don’t rush your process, you want to be there at the right time and the right moment as well," he said. "To make sure that everybody is good at conditioning and to stay humble.”
For the girls cross country team, Yanitzia Luna spoke on what the team is practicing and aiming to improve this season.
“We’re practicing on improving our personal records, so we’re practicing every day, sometimes we do three miles," said Luna. "We mostly do four or five, so that way when we’re at meets it’s only three minutes, so it’s not as hard.”
Luna also reflected on her mentors that help her be better every day, and who inspired her to join the cross country team in the first place.
“My dad, he’s a very big sports person, and so he’s always helping me train during the summer,” she said.
With all the positive attitudes and hard training, expectations for a good season are in clear sight.
