Despite showing flashes of promise, Thornton Fractional South fell 9-0 to Tinley Park on Monday, April 21, as the Red Wolves continue to focus on growth and consistency heading into the heart of the season.
Coming off a tough road loss to Griffith, the Red Wolves entered the game looking to break a four-game losing streak. While the final score favored the Titans, T.F. South’s young squad — including several first-time varsity players — gained valuable experience on the road.
“I preach the fact that every day is a new day,” said head coach Amir Wright. “It’s a long season, and we’re continuing to grow. A lot of these guys are getting their first real taste of varsity baseball, and they’re learning quickly.”
Junior pitcher Benicio Gutierrez worked through early pressure and kept Tinley scoreless in multiple innings. However, a series of defensive miscommunications opened the door for the Titans to extend their lead in the middle innings.
“We’re focusing on communication,” Wright said. “That’s been the biggest thing for us this season.”
Now 4-11-1, the Red Wolves remain committed to developing their young core and building momentum heading into conference play and the postseason push.
