The Red Wolves of Thornton Fractional South secured a 14-3 victory over their rivals, Thornton Fractional North, in a conference matchup on May 5. This win marked the end of a prolonged slump and extended their winning streak to three games.
According to the records, South entered the game with an overall record of 6-17-1 and had not yet won a conference game. North also came into the match without a conference win, holding a record of 4-15. Senior Kyle Smith led the Red Wolves with seven strikeouts and strong early pitching, while senior Ryan Marnell provided defensive leadership. "Talking is all you’ve got to do," said Marnell. "Communication wins games."
Senior David Harvin and sophomore Abraham Serna initiated the offense in the first inning by combining to score the opening run. Serna later added another RBI, contributing to a series of runs throughout multiple innings. Junior Brandon Barrett and freshman Anthony Deleon made significant contributions with key hits and runs as the Red Wolves widened their lead.
Head coach Amir Wright expressed satisfaction with his team's performance, saying, "Our defense is getting better, and offensively, guys are buying into our approach. We’re happy to be rolling right now." Despite their loss, TF North head coach Tyler Fortier commended his team's effort: "We hung in there. We’re improving. We’re just focused on the next game."
