It was the first time the Montini Catholic girls’ cross country team had qualified for a state meet in eight years, and while the team finished 21st overall, a pair of sophomores stood out in the pack and show the bright future for the program with All-GCAC nods.
Sydney Gertsen was named All-State for the second time in as many years, placing eighth at states with a time of 17:27. This is the second fastest time in school history, according to a report on Montini Catholic’s website. Gertsen was second in three of the invitational meets, and was in the top 10 in the First to Finish Invitational. She was named All-Conference with her second place finish at the GCAC championship meet.
Ashlynn Lindt placed 11th at the GCAC championship meet to be named All-Conference, as well. She has had solid finishes throughout the season, with a pair of invitational finishes in the top 10 including seventh at the Bishop McNamara Sectional.
